Minutes of Our Meeting of 3rd June 2021

Venue: Skype

Present:

John Goodwin Jennie Rook Bob Barker Richard Powell Gina Angeletta June Megennis Nikki Burrows Jennifer Gardner

Greetings Scribes,

As always, we hope that you and your closest are healthy and safe.

Readings:

Bob: The next chapter of his ‘The Woman across the Street’ novel. The story moves on in an introspective manner with Detective Carver’s thoughts as he travels into the wilderness with Megan. The tension is building as we work through Carver’s head and his practical efforts to stay in touch with the world should things go bad. An informative chapter and a good set up for the next piece of action.

Rick: Chapter 26 of his POW novel: The Chateau Again. Feedback: A good piece but some repetition of the word ‘chateau’ and need to take another look at the dialogue identifiers, as this time, there were too many.

Bob left the meeting at 11:25 and will hope to see us in person next week.

Nikki: Nasty bar – based on last week’s homework using letters to make words, she made into a poem. Well done Nikki.

Jennifer: Almost Human – from a homework based prompt from last week. It was a short follow on from Defiled, Jennifer’s novel. The baddie isn’t quite as bad as the reader originally thought.

Then, Jennifer also read her next chapter of Defiled and having heard the first piece, we know think some of this detail of the antagonist could be slotted into the story somewhere. We’d like to see some inner details of this main character.

Jennie: Ellie’s Sandcastle – a short story using the letters as first letters of every word in the story.

Then she read Fun sentences made from only the letters, as the homework had been set.

John: A Night at the Opera – a Greek god and goddesses story which was very funny.

No Coffee break.

June: Letters made into words, made into a dreadful story – very well done, with no help from a word app.

Gina: Based on last week’s homework: Almost Human - a real life story of a family member’s road accident – well written using short sentences for emphasis.

When all had read we had a discussion on the pace of vaccinating and whether we could get back to Neo’s. You need to have an up-to-date Covid-19 test or be fully vaccinated to visit the establishment.

Due to the, now restricted testing sites in Paphos and Peyia area, and for ease, we decided that next week we would meet at Nikki’s place and use her garden. Thank you Nikki for hosting us.
